Here are some great tips to keep you and your pet prepared for an emergency.

Uggie's a True Star

Uggie, the adorable dog who appeared in this year's Best Picture, The Artist, got his own piece of history outside Grauman's Chinese Theater in Hollywood on Monday, June 25. As you can see from the photo above, Ugggie's paw prints join those of nearly 200 other celebrities whose hand and footprints are preserved in cement blocks outside the theater.

Uggie's got everything associated with stardom except the Oscar, which is never awarded to animals.

The Bear Stroke?

I know it's not a dog but it is too important not to share. Bears are popping up all over, even in a California swimming pool. Moral of the story: Look before you leap!

We're having some scorching days here on the East Coast and my pups have been reluctant to leave the A/C. Me too, but we do need some exercise, which for us is going to come in the form of swimming. At least while it is this hot.

My three dogs love to swim and that is a blessing. It tires them out and cools them off. Those of you without a pool, please stay in the shade and avoid the heat of the day. Dogs, just like people, can get heat stroke.

"Bronksey" used to be just "Bronx" when he was a pup and being fostered by one of my daughter's former students. It was super hard to give up such a fabulous dog but just look at the great work he is doing.

Ludwig's Corner

Saturday was a beautiful day for a dog show! The Bryn Mawr Kennel Club sponsored an awesome one in Ludwig's Corner, about a half hour from my home base. The above Yorkies were waiting for their turn in the ring.

Are you going to be anywhere near San Diego on today? If so, be sure to head over to the Loews Coronado Bay Resort and see how many dogs can fit on a surfboard and ride a wave! In this practice session, there were ten!!

Sounds like great fun and Loews is a pet-friendly hotel. Chef Keith Roberts from Loews Santa Monica is in the book!

A Cash Generating Trend

San Antonio is cracking down on dog owners who let their pets roam free, are not up to date on licenses and vaccinations and who are overly aggressive. Once a week, a courtroom in the city is devoted to settling matters of canine jurisprudence and all of this vigilance has resulted in a cash bonanza for the city.
